Ingredient Additions & Substitutions For Patriotic Strawberries
Food coloring
If you can’t find candy melts, just tint your melted white chocolate with red and blue oil-based food coloring! The food coloring has to be oil-based, as water-based food coloring will make the chocolate grainy.
Sanding sugar
Besides sprinkles and nonpareils, sanding sugar is also perfect for effortlessly decorating these red, white, and blue-dipped strawberries.
The sky is the limit when it comes to decorating these Fourth of July strawberries! After all, one of the best things about homemade 4th July foods is dressing them up in patriotic colors.
Tips For Making This Red White and Blue Strawberries Recipe
Make Sure the Berries are Dry
Make sure your strawberries are completely dry before dipping them in chocolate, as any moisture can prevent the coating from sticking properly. Gently pat them dry with paper towels, place them on a clean kitchen towel, and then let them air-dry for at least 15 minutes.
Prepare an Assembly Line
Have everything ready before you begin! Arrange the strawberries on the parchment-lined baking sheet, place the bowl of sprinkles nearby, and transfer the melted candy melts into their piping bags. This way, you can work quickly and ensure the sprinkles will adhere to the coating before it sets!

4th of July Strawberries Recipe FAQs
Is it better to dip strawberries cold or room temperature?
The strawberries should be at room temperature, or the chocolate coating will not stick. If they’re straight out of the fridge, they’ll sweat, making it difficult for the chocolate to stick.
Why won’t my chocolate stick to my strawberries?
Besides making sure they’re at room temperature, your patriotic strawberries should be completely dry before coating and decorating. Any trace of moisture can cause the chocolate to slide off!
How do you get the drizzle lines thin and neat?
If your melted candy melts is too thick, the drizzle will come out heavy. To solve this, thin the mixture with vegetable shortening and work in a quick back-and-forth motion when decorating your 4th of July strawberries.
Can you make this red white and blue strawberries recipe the day before?
Yes, you can make these July 4th strawberries the day before. Store them in airtight containers lined with paper towels to absorb condensation. And for the best texture and looks, enjoy these patriotic strawberries within 2 days!

Red White and Blue Strawberries Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup strawberries, stems intact
- 1/2 cup white chocolate
- Red candy melts
- Blue candy melts
- Red white and blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Rinse the strawberries and pat them dry with paper towels. Set aside to make sure they're completely dry before coating.
- Melt the white chocolate until smooth. For convenience, just pop the white chocolate in the microwave and melt in 30-second bursts at regular power, stirring between each, until smooth.
- Hold each strawberry by its stem, then dip it into the melted white chocolate. Let the excess coating drip back into the bowl for a few seconds.
- Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let them set completely, about 20 minutes.
- Melt the candy melts separately according to package instructions. Transfer each melted candy melt into its own ziplock bag. Press out the air, seal, and snip a small corner.
- Drizzle the melted blue candy over the white chocolate coated strawberries in a quick back-and-forth motion.
- Follow with the melted red candy in the same motion. While the drizzles are still wet, scatter patriotic sprinkles over the strawberries.
- Allow the finished red white and blue strawberries to set before serving, about 20 minutes. To speed things up, feel free to refrigerate them for 15 minutes!
