- Because every guest gets their own American flag sugar cookie pizza, there’s no need for extra serving utensils or carefully planned portions. Skip the awkward first-slice moment and let everyone enjoy their own mini flag dessert!
- This American flag fruit pizza is built on a sugar cookie base, so it’s like getting 2 desserts in 1! Topped with fresh berries and whipped cream, it’s not overly sweet and makes an excellent summer treat.

Ingredients
Unsalted butter and granulated sugar – They make up the base of the sugar cookie dough. Make sure your butter is softened so it easily creams with the sugar!
Egg – For structure and binding. Bring it to room temperature for a consistent batter.
Baking powder – For lift. It also keeps the sugar cookie from turning cakey.
Salt – Keeps the American flag cookie pizza from tasting flat.
All-purpose flour – Use the spoon-and-level method or weigh your flour to get an accurate measurement. Too much flour will make the sugar cookie dry, while too little flour will make the dough sticky and difficult to work with.
Heavy whipping cream – For decorating the patriotic fruit pizza. To ensure your white stripes hold their shape, avoid light or low-fat alternatives.
Fresh blueberries – For the American flag fruit pizza’s canton. Use berries of a consistent size for a tight, neat-looking blue field!
Fresh strawberries – Fresh is best for the fruits on this patriotic flag dessert pizza. Frozen berries can thaw, and the resulting liquid will just soak into the cream topping, no thanks!

Ingredient Additions & Substitutions For Sugar Cookie Flag Fruit Pizza
Blackberries and raspberries
You can swap the strawberries for raspberries and blackberries for the blueberries on your flag fruit pizza. Just avoid frozen, canned, or jarred fruits as the excess moisture will soften the cookie base and ruin the whipped cream topping.
Store-bought sugar cookie dough
We made the sugar cookie from scratch, but if you’re short on time (or patience), you can make this flag cookie fruit pizza with store-bought sugar cookie dough.
Cream cheese frosting
Want a richer patriotic dessert?
Make a quick cream cheese frosting by beating 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 1/3 cup of powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
And since we want it perfectly white for the Fourth of July fruit pizza, we’ll also beat in 8 ounces of Cool Whip to the frosting.
Tips For Making This Recipe
Avoid Soggy Pizzas
Make sure to dab your fresh fruits with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture. Wait for the sugar cookies to cool completely before decorating and serve your American flag fruit pizza desserts within 2 hours!
Chill Before Serving
You can keep your patriotic fruit pizza cookies in the fridge until 15 minutes before serving so the toppings don’t soften too quickly at the hot outdoor gathering.
Serving Tricks
To serve, arrange the 4th of July dessert pizza cookies in neat rows on a large tray. Or, for a more interactive experience, set out the sugar cookie bases on a table with bowls of toppings, and just let your guests make their own flags.

Flag Fruit Pizza Recipe FAQs
What is a dessert pizza?
A dessert pizza is usually made with a cookie base that’s topped with frosting and sweets like chocolates, candies, and fruits. This 4th of July fruit pizza uses a sugar-cookie base, layered with whipped cream and fresh fruits arranged to look like the American flag.
Do I have to use whipped cream for this American flag fruit cookie dessert pizza?
Not at all! We just like the lightness of whipped cream with the strawberries and blueberries, but you can make this patriotic fruit dessert pizza with any other white-colored frosting like this unbelievably vegan buttercream.
Can you make this flag fruit pizza the day before?
Yes, but I would assemble the American flag dessert pizza cookies no more than 2 hours before serving. We don’t want the whipped cream and fresh fruits to soften too much. You can bake and store the sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
How to store American flag fruit pizza?
You can store your 4th of July dessert pizza cookies for up to 2 days, but to be honest, they’re best enjoyed the day you made them. Any longer and the cookie base will start to lose its texture.

American Flag Fruit Pizza
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch salt
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- Heavy whipping cream
- Fresh blueberries, washed and patted dry
- Fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, sliced, and patted dry
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Beat the softened butter and sugar together on medium-high speed for about 2 minutes or until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the egg and beat until fully incorporated, about 30 seconds.
- Mix in the baking powder and salt, then gradually fold in the flour until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto the prepared baking sheet and divide it into equal portions. Press each piece into a rectangle, leaving at least 1 inch between the rectangles on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look set. Let the sugar cookies sit on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Cool completely before decorating.
- Whip the heavy cream until fluffy. Spread an even layer of whipped cream over each cookie.
- Add the blueberries to the top left corner and arrange them into a tight rectangle for the flag's canton.
- Lay the strawberry slices in horizontal rows for the flag's red stripes.
- Finally, whip the remaining heavy cream into stiff peaks and transfer to a piping bag. Snip a small corner and pipe it into the gaps between the strawberry rows for the flag's white stripes.
