Ingredients And Substitutions
White cheddar cheese – Whether as a July 4th or Memorial Day charcuterie board, this red white blue charcuterie board screams abundance. Be generous with ingredients like cheese, so the platter looks inviting.
Mozzarella string cheese sticks – Mozzarella cheese sticks are one of the best easy finger foods for 4th of July. They pair well with meats and fruits, and they’re perfect for filling the gaps between the larger elements of this 4th of July snack board.
Bruschette mini toasts – Crunchy and savory, these mini toasts are one of the best snack ideas for 4th of July! But of course, feel free to use your favorite finger foods. My tip is to choose something sturdy enough to hold up to the cheese and meat in this July 4th charcuterie board.
Cherry tomatoes – We’re featuring sweet and savory patriotic themed food options in this 4th of July charcuterie board. The produce is up to you, but make sure you’re using ones that are easy to grab.
Red radish – This red white blue charcuterie board should be as festive as your Fourth of July celebration. We’re adding some radish slices to intensify the board’s red section, plus their mildly spicy flavor and crunchy texture are quite satisfying!
Black olives – Make sure to drain and pat them dry before placing the olives on the board. You don’t want to add moisture to the patriotic party snack board.
Feel free to mix and match blue-black ingredients that you can easily pack together! We don’t want noticeable gaps on the party board.
Red cabbage – Slice them into thin strips so they’re easier to tuck between the other ingredients. They’re great for dividing sections, and if you fan them out, they’ll create a fuller-looking Fourth of July charcuterie board!
Ham – Their arrangement is up to you, but I do think that rolling them into rosettes creates a more elegant look. This 4th of July-themed charcuterie board looks styled and intentional, not thrown together at the last minute!
Swiss cheese slices – This red white and blue charcuterie board is also decorated with cheese stars. Just use a small star cookie cutter and work on the cheese slices while they’re still cold.
Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries – A regular favorite in 4th of July cookout food recipes, sweet and juicy mixed berries just make sense for any red and blue-themed gathering.
Use fresh fruits, not just because they look more vibrant, but frozen berries will likely release liquid on the board at your summer gathering.
Cherries and plums – They contrast well with the savory Fourth of July appetizers for party! You can also add your favorite summer fruits for an abundant red white and blue charcuterie board.
Watermelon – You can also use a star cookie cutter on your watermelon for an extra patriotic detail!
In fact, even other fruits like apples and pears are perfect for punching out stars. Just soak them in salty water for 5 minutes, then rinse them under running water to prevent browning.
Tortillas – It’s just fun to have dippers like star-shaped tortillas on a July 4 charcuterie board!
Oh, and lightly toast them before cutting! This will help them hold their shape better.

Ingredient Additions & Substitutions For July 4th Charcuterie Board
Red Patriotic Food Ideas
There are no wrong food options for this Independence Day charcuterie board.
Besides ham, you can use salami rounds. Drained roasted red pepper strips might be more enjoyable than fresh veggies, and red wax cheese like Gouda adds a touch of sophistication.
You’re also not limited to fresh fruits! You can make this board with dried cranberries or maybe even include some sweet, red fillers like red M&M’s to balance the salty snacks.
White Patriotic Food Ideas
Unsure about what other white treats you can add to your 4th of July party charcuterie board? How about more stars made from firm cheese, like provolone, or add in some crunchy snacks like pita chips?
If you’re looking for a dip to round out this feast, fill up star-shaped bowls with ranch or melted white chocolate! Remember to offer contrasting flavors to give everyone the best experience.
Blue Patriotic Food Ideas
For the blue zone on this Fourth of July board, you can use halved black grapes, blue yogurt pretzels, and blue corn chips to add variety of textures and flavors.
I also think adding our blackberry jam as your dip is a fantastic way to give your patriotic charcuterie board an extra homemade touch.
Tips For Making This Recipe
Don’t Overthink Your Board
No fancy cheese board? No problem! Just use a rectangular baking tray or a large cutting board. You can pretty much use anything flat that can handle the amount and weight of all the ingredients.
Keep Everything Fresh
Say no to messy, wet charcuterie! Make sure all your ingredients are dry, and keep crunchy elements away from high-moisture ingredients, such as sliced fruit. Get creative and use some ingredients as natural dividers.
Serving Ideas
What should you serve with your 4th of July charcuterie board? Add dips like hummus, hot honey, pesto, chocolate ganache, and peanut butter on the side to round out this sweet and savory appetizer spread!

Red White Blue Charcuterie Board Recipe FAQs
What is the difference between a 4th of July charcuterie board and an American flag charcuterie board?
The 4th of July charcuterie board is a red, white, and blue themed snack board, while an American flag charcuterie board arranges its elements in the shape of the U.S. flag (take a look at my American flag charcuterie board). Both USA-themed boards are fun and festive and can be used not only for Independence Day celebrations but also for any patriotic holiday.
What do you put on a 4th of July charcuterie board?
Sweet and savory foods in patriotic colors work perfectly on this 4th of July charcuterie board. The key is offering variety so every guest finds something they’ll love. Think meats, cheeses, dippers, snacks, and desserts that are easy to grab and hold up at room temperature!
How do you make cheese stars for a charcuterie board?
You just need to press a star-shaped cookie cutter through the cheese slices. My tip is to use firm white cheeses like white cheddar and Swiss cheese, so they don’t fall apart.
How far in advance can I make a 4th of July charcuterie board?
You can jump-start this red, white, and blue charcuterie board by washing and drying the produce and rolling the meats the night before. Store everything in separate airtight containers in the fridge, then assemble the board 1 to 2 hours before serving. This helps prevent fruits and veggies from oxidizing or releasing moisture on the board. We also want to keep our snacks crunchy, so do not assemble your charcuterie board too early!
How long is it safe for a charcuterie board to sit out?
Since this July 4th charcuterie board will be served during the summer, do not let it sit out for more than 2 hours. For food safety, serve only what you expect to be finished within the first hour; then replenish the appetizers and snacks as needed.

4th of July Charcuterie Board
Ingredients
- 1 cup white cheddar cheese cubed
- 1/2 cup mozzarella string cheese sticks, shredded
- 1/2 cup Bruschette mini toasts
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- 1/2 cup red radish, sliced
- 1/2 cup pitted black olives, drained
- 1/2 cup red cabbage, sliced
- 8 slices ham
- 7 Swiss cheese slices, cut into stars
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup strawberries
- 1 cup blackberries
- 1 cup cherries
- 3 plums, sliced
- 1/4 watermelon, sliced
- 5 tortillas, toasted, cut into stars
Instructions
- Wash and dry all the fruits, drain and pat the olives dry, and roll the ham into rosettes. I also recommend slicing the produce right before assembling your 4th of July charcuterie board to keep it from drying out.
- Build the red section on the right side of the board. You can start with the largest ingredients, then layer in the smaller food items around them. Get creative with the arrangement so the sweet and savory elements are interspersed. Add the cheese stars on top of the food items.
- Add the white elements. Stagger the heights of the cheese and tortilla stars so the board looks layered rather than flat.
- Build the patriotic charcuterie board's blue section on the opposite side of the red section. Make sure to pack your ingredients tightly so you have solid blue and red fields when viewed from above. You can use white ingredients, such as mini toasts, to bridge the red and blue zones.
- For an abundant red, white, and blue charcuterie board, check for any remaining gaps on the platter and fill them in. Add height and visual interest by arranging the fillers upright. Then, scatter more stars across the board.
Notes
- No fancy cheese board? No problem! Just use a rectangular baking tray or a large cutting board. You can pretty much use anything flat that can handle the amount and weight of all the ingredients.
- Say no to messy, wet charcuterie! Make sure all your ingredients are dry, and keep crunchy elements away from high-moisture ingredients, such as sliced fruit. Get creative and use some ingredients as natural dividers.
- What should you serve with your 4th of July charcuterie board? Add dips like hummus, hot honey, pesto, chocolate ganache, and peanut butter on the side to round out this sweet-and-savory appetizer spread!
