Ingredients And Substitutions
Imitation crab – You can use any seafood you like for this easy sushi bake recipe, but imitation crab is the easiest to prepare, especially if you’re cooking a lot of potluck dishes. A mix of imitation crab and chopped shrimp would also make a delicious variation!
Cream cheese – Cream cheese not only lends creaminess and richness, but it also helps hold the baked sushi together.
Kewpie mayo – While regular mayo can work for this simple baked sushi recipe, you’ll get a more rounded flavor with the richer Japanese mayo.
Sriracha – The heat cutting through the rich, umami-packed TikTok sushi bake makes it even more irresistible.
Sushi rice – The stickiness of short grain rice ensures the viral sushi bake won’t easily fall apart.

Tips For Making This Recipe
Prep the Crab Sticks Effortlessly
To shred your crab sticks, roll each imitation crab between your hands, then pull the strands apart. You can also just run them through a food processor if you’re making this TikTok sushi bake recipe for a crowd.
Fold the Vinegar into the Hot Rice
Fold the vinegar into the sushi rice while it’s still hot so it absorbs better. If you’re using leftover sushi rice, warm it up before mixing in the vinegar.
Rice Holds Its Shape Better When Cooled
Use a fan to cool the rice while mixing it. Once cooled, press the rice firmly into the bottom of the baking dish. This will help the sushi rice layer hold its shape better.
Baked Sushi Recipe FAQs
What is sushi bake?
Sushi bake is essentially sushi in casserole form. It deconstructs the roll and layers its components in a casserole dish.
Can you use normal rice for this sushi bake recipe?
This sushi bake TikTok recipe is best made with short-grain sushi rice since it’s sticky. If your rice is not starchy, the sushi bake might fall apart. However, Jasmine rice might also work!
Can I use tuna for sushi bake?
Instead of imitation crab sushi bake, you can also make a tuna sushi bake! I’ll swap the imitation crab in this recipe with strained canned tuna in oil.
Should you eat sushi bake hot or cold?
You can eat this sushi casserole hot or straight out of the fridge. However, in my opinion, it’s best enjoyed warm. You can reheat it at 325°F for 10 minutes!
How long does this TikTok sushi bake last?
You can refrigerate this viral sushi bake for 2 to 3 days.
How to store sushi bake with cream cheese?
Transfer your cooled imitation crab sushi bake to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dish, as the texture may become unappealing.
