Ingredients And Substitutions
Brie cheese wheel – Make clean-up easier by getting a brie cheese wheel in a wooden box! Need a brie cheese substitute? This recipe also works with Camembert.
Fresh garlic – Rich and creamy brie calls for savory garlic slices! For extra flavor, you can also use garlic confit cloves.
Fresh thyme leaves – The earthy flavor of fresh herbs adds complexity to the garlic-cheese combo. Fresh rosemary and sage are also perfect with this gooey cheese dip.
Black truffle oil – Oil keeps the cheese from drying out in the oven. But instead of melted butter or extra virgin olive oil like in most baked brie recipes, we’ll make our delicious appetizer dip special with the umami-packed truffle oil.
Crackers and crostini – What to pair with a melty wheel of cheese? It’s up to you! I think crusty baguette slices are perfect for scooping up all that creamy cheese.
Tips For Making This Recipe
Use Room Temperature Brie
Let your refrigerated brie sit out for at least 30 minutes before baking. Cold brie takes longer to bake and is more likely to become overdone.
Keep it Mess-Free
Worried that your baked brie with garlic will leak through its box? You can also wrap the exterior of the box with foil!
Make-Ahead and Storage
Store leftover baked brie in an airtight container for 2 to 3 days. To serve, reheat it in the oven at 300°F for 10 minutes or until it’s gooey again.
You can also prep ahead! After inserting the garlic slices into the rind, wrap the unbaked brie in plastic wrap and refrigerate it in an airtight container for 2 to 24 hours until you’re ready to bake.
Herb and Garlic Baked Brie Recipe FAQs
How much brie would I need per person for a party?
You can count 1 ounce of brie per party guest. This herb and garlic baked brie recipe uses an 8-ounce wheel, which can serve 6 to 8 guests.
Do you take the rind off brie before baking?
You don’t need to remove the rind when making this baked garlic brie, as it actually helps keep the entire brie wheel intact!
Do you score the top of brie before baking?
Yes! Scoring the brie rind with a sharp knife encourages even, mess-free melting. The cuts also make it easier to infuse the cheese with flavor.
What goes well with baked brie and garlic?
The kick from chili flakes and honey‘s sweet flavor will pair perfectly with the rich, gooey brie. You can also add some walnuts for texture or pair it with luscious fruit preserves. Try our sweet-spicy peach jalapeno jam for a change!
Why is my baked brie with garlic and thyme rubbery?
Overbaking can cause the melty cheese to re-harden and become rubbery. Your baked brie is done once the top is bubbly!
