lemon & thyme salt scrub.

Happy Friday, darlings!

The weekend is upon us once again, and no doubt you’ve got some fabulous plans, right? A hot date? Painting the down red? Putting on the ritz?

Are people still putting on the ritz? That sounds ultra-fancy. Like something you need to wear white gloves and a ball gown in order to do properly.

Maybe you’re like me, and this weekend you’ll be hanging out at home, submitting your resume to potential employers, freaking out about your future, and succumbing to wave after wave of anxiety-induced panic attacks regarding the prospect of one day soon having to grow up and get a big-girl job. A career.

What a horrifying word! Career. That’s the type of word that looms over you. When you’ve spent your entire adult life wavering back and forth between going to school and working jobs you don’t love but need, the prospect of actually applying for jobs you really want is terrifying!

But I digress.

No matter what your weekend plans are, looking pretty is definitely on the agenda. All you need to do is take five minutes to whip up this lovely lemon and thyme salt scrub and your skin will be absolutely radiant!

Here’s the part of this post where I write a terrible pun, like “you glow, girl!”

Whew. now that’s out of the way, we can talk about why this salt scrub is so great for your skin! Remember a few days ago I showed you how to make your own infused salts? Well, you can use them for way more than just cooking, friends. I’ve used my meyer lemon and thyme sea salt in this scrub.

Salt is a wonderful natural exfoliant, detoxifier, skin softener and antiseptic agent. Sweet almond oil is an amazing moisturizer, and it smells ridiculously delicious! Thyme contains wonderful antioxidants and works as a natural astringent for your skin. Lemon is one of the darlings of the natural skin care world, full of all sorts of wonderful redeeming qualities. Lemon is great for treating pigmentation problems, acne, softening your skin and generally turning you into a glowing goddess.

Glow on with your bad self!

Okay, I seriously need to control myself with these puns. They’re out of control.

Making this scrub couldn’t be simpler: find a clean jar, add your salt, and add  enough sweet almond oil or extra virgin olive oil to cover the salt. If you’d like, you can add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil–I like tea tree, because it’s really great for drawing out the impurities in your skin.

You can then place a lid on your scrub and let it live in your counter or in your shower until ready to use. All you need to do is stir it up so the oil and salt is mixed together, apply to your face and body in gentle, circular motions and rinse off with warm water. Your skin will be hydrated, exfoliated and will look amazing, guaranteed!

Homemade salt scrubs couldn’t be easier to make, or more beneficial to your skin. Plus making your own is so much less expensive than buying scrubs in the store, which are loaded with unnecessary chemicals, preservatives and additives. No thank you!

Homemade Lemon and Thyme Salt Scrub

Yield: about 1 1/2 cups scrub

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup kosher salt* (I used this infused salt, but you can use plain!)
1/2 cup pure organic almond oil

*If you aren't making the infused salt and instead are using plain kosher salt, add the following to your mixture:

the zest of one lemon
2 teaspoons fresh thyme, leaves stripped from the stems

Directions:

Pour the salt into a clean, sterilized container with a tight-fitting lid.

If you're using plain salt, add the lemon zest and thyme.

Pour the almond oil over top and screw the lid on tightly.

To use, just give the jar a stir to mix the oil and salt together, and scrub away in the shower!

The scrub will keep for up to 6 months stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

I love making my own too. So much cheaper than the store-bought ones as well! This particular combination must smell quite heavenly.

I adore salt and sugar scrubs. I’ve been using a ginger one for the past 2 months exclusively. I think it’s time we brought in a bit of citrus as we head into spring. Gorgeous!
